Waldmüller
Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller
Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, the famous Austrian landscape and portrait paintor, chose the Höldrichsmühle as a setting for numerous paintings. The paintings were made in the first half of the 19th century. The original paintings can be seen in the Austrian Gallery Belvedere.
Landscapes and Portraits
Waldmüller was especially renowned for his singular light effects and for his landscape paintings. As one of the first artists of his period, he turned away from the classic art of portraiting and chose to portray the beauty of nature and of the beautiful simplicity of the peasant population.
The Höldrichsmühle can be seen in the following paintings: “Christmas morning in the Höldrichsmühle”, “The Brides Farewell from Home”, and “Peasant Wedding in Lower Austria”.
